About The Missing Links

The Missing Links was founded by Anne Hazelton in Anchorage, AK, in January, 2010. Initially operating out of rooms in the back of Laura’s Charm School along Dimond Boulevard, the business moved to its current location on E 76th Ave in the late summer of 2015. Here there is a larger space, with the potential for running small classes, as well as the one-on-one teaching that is the core purpose of the business.

While primarily teaching students one-on-one, Anne has also run small-group classes in writing. But the focus of her work is helping students overcome reading and writing issues, and this requires focused sessions with only Anne and the student involved.

As the only trained Orton-Gillingham specialist in Alaska, Anne uses the Orton-Gillingham approach to tailor her work with each student to their exact needs. Orton-Gillingham does not have a ‘program’ of pre-designed sessions, but a wide range of multi-sensory techniques to work with a wide range of problems. Too many programs attempt to be a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to teaching reading, but the failure of equivalent  ‘one-size-fits-all’ systems in schools is often why students come to her. The Orton-Gillingham approach allows her to avoid going through all the steps of a program, and getting right to the heart of each student’s individual issues. This allows a far more rapid solution than formal programs.

Anne is also the only Dyslexia Practitioner in Alaska. This is a certification by the International Dyslexia Association.
